There are few places in the world where so many breathtaking lakes can be found within just a few hours' drive of one another. During our time exploring Banff National Park, we quickly discovered that each lake has its own unique personality

Lake Louise is probably the most photographed and visited lake in Banff National Park and is widely recognized as one of the most beautiful lakes in the world.

Moraine Lake has its own unique blend of deep blue and emerald green. Surrounded by towering peaks, glaciers, and rugged rock walls, the lake somehow feels both wild and peaceful at the same time.

The only way to visit Lake Agnes is to hike. While the trail isn't technically difficult, it is a steady uphill climb of approximately 1,500 feet from Lake Louise.For most hikers, it's challenging but very achievable

The name Minnewanka comes from the Stoney Nakoda words meaning "Water of the Spirits."

Every lake we've written about so far has inspired a sense of awe.Johnson Lake inspires something else.Relaxation.The lake is much smaller than many of Banff's famous lakes and, instead of dramatic cliffs or glaciers, it's surrounded by forests that create a peaceful, intimate setting

Although Emerald Lake is located in Yoho National Park, just across the British Columbia border from Banff National Park, we consider it an essential stop every time we visit the Canadian Rockies. In fact, we have never made a trip to Banff without spending time here.

Bow Lake is one of the largest lakes along the Icefields Parkway and marks the beginning of one of Canada's most famous rivers—the Bow River.
