As part of our 'Travel Well, Live Well' journey along the East Coast, our RV adventure brought us to Georgia's breathtaking Jekyll Island...

Jekyll Island, part of Georgia’s stunning Golden Isles (along with St. Simons Island and the historic port city of Brunswick), is a must-visit coastal gem. Our trip included a quick stop in downtown Brunswick’s historic district—a charming area with beautiful architecture and an inviting streetscape. While many storefronts were vacant or closed on a Monday afternoon, the lively brewery and pub hinted at a much livelier scene on weekend evenings.

From there, we crossed the scenic marshes and grassy rivers—a striking contrast to our hometown beaches in Sarasota, Florida—before arriving at Jekyll Island. (Note: There’s a $10 per vehicle entry fee since the island is a Georgia State Park.)

Beaches & Natural Beauty

Jekyll Island’s beaches are framed by rolling sand dunes, swaying sea oats, and an abundance of shorebirds. One standout was Driftwood Beach, where weathered trees stretch across the sand, creating an almost surreal landscape. (Fun fact: This eerie setting was even featured in The Walking Dead!)

E-Biking Adventure

With over 20 miles of trails, biking is one of the best ways to explore the island. We took our e-bikes and spent hours riding through maritime forests, past historic sites, and along marshlands draped in Spanish moss. The paths are well-maintained and make it easy to see the island’s diverse ecosystems.

Pro Tip:  The e-biking trails were very easy to find and since they go almost everywhere on the island, it is easy to park and unload your bike and find the trail almost anywhere on the island.

Must-See Highlights

Historic District: The Jekyll Island Club Hotel is the crown jewel, once a retreat for America’s wealthiest families. The surrounding area boasts 33 historic buildings full of Gilded Age charm.

We were stunned to spot deer wandering along the shoreline - something you don’t see every day!
