Buffalo Creek Golf Course in Palmetto, Florida, isn’t just a golfer’s paradise – it is a mecca for wildlife watching : —Between swings, you might spot bald eagles soaring overhead, sandhill crane families strolling the fairways, or even “Chubbs”, the legendary 15-foot alligator**, making his slow, majestic commute between ponds.

Meet the Locals: Buffalo Creek’s Wildlife Stars

Florida Sandhill Cranes – These elegant, long-legged birds mate for life and can live 30-40 years. Watching parents guide their fluffy, golden-brown chicks across the greens is a heartwarming sight.

Bald Eagles – A common (but always thrilling) sight, often seen in pairs patrolling the skies or perched in tall pines.

Hawks & Raptors – Keep an eye out for red-shouldered hawks diving for prey—sometimes right in the middle of the fairway!

Chubbs the Alligator – The course’s most famous resident, this 15-foot gator is known for leisurely crossing between lakes. (I haven’t spotted him yet, but we did see this big guy—so worn out from the heat, he had to take a mid-journey rest between ponds!

Golfing with a Side of Safari

Buffalo Creek’s public course offers more than just a great round—it’s a front-row seat to Florida’s wild side. The layout weaves through natural wetlands and oak hammocks, ensuring every hole comes with potential wildlife cameos.
